Just say it is a loan that you used to pay for the item, and you have to pay the bank back for that money that you essentially borrowed. It's not that hard to explain.

Ma'am just kindly explain to the child that, the credit card represents borrowed money, hence the term credit, then explain that whenever she uses it, she now has to use her actual saved money to pay the balance for whatever she used the card to buy.
